Budget Passes Initial Vote

City Council has two weeks to sit on the budget.

To their own dismay, councillors voted in favour of a 4.6 per cent hike in the tax levy, last night. Many have said before they were hoping to see an increase in and around 3 per cent.

Mayor Keith Hobbs says he’s not happy with the rate, but doesn’t know here else the city can pare down on costs. He adds they should push ahead with a core services review, for an outside look at what the city can do without, in future budget years.

The budget is not final until ratification next month. (File photo)
