The number of leaky copper pipe patch kits appear to be flying off a Thunder Bay plumber’s shelf.
Brad Gibson tells us since he started making the packages on Monday, he is amazed to see about 25-30 people a day stopping by Dusty’s Car Care Centre to pick one up. “No, I didn’t really expect it. We do have about 150-200 patch kits available for pick up here, and we intended on distributing them to the problem areas.”
The local resident stresses they are a temporary fix for anyone waiting for repairs to leaky copper pipes.
He tells us they could make another thousand packages, not only for those who need them, but also people planning ahead.
“These are the people living in the area. Maybe they haven’t had a leak yet, but all around them the leaks have happened. There is a greenish blue residual, but it’s not leaking yet,” says Gibson.
Many city residents have filed a lawsuit against the city claiming it is responsible for leaks in copper water pipes, which they say is brought on by sodium hydroxide.
