Crossing Guards Promote “Park And Stride”

Working together ensures a safe school year, including with the schools’ crossing guards.

The city sent out a notice, which pitches ideas like “Park and Stride” which essentially means dropping your kids off a block or two away from their school as a way to ease congestion in the immediate zone.

Field Supervisor Michelle Riemer hopes kids will wear masks when crossing the street, especially when the suggested two metre distance can’t be obtained.

She adds the guards will have them. “They don’t have to wear them the whole time they are on shift, but when they are crossing the kids, we want them wearing the masks. And there are people who are medically exempt from wearing masks.”

Riemer notes the guards, like the educators, underwent training and are fed information as it becomes available.
