A Thunder Bay City councillor has been found to be in conflict of interest.
The city’s Integrity Commissioner has ruled McIntyre Ward’s Albert Aiello, had a conflict when he failed to declare an interest and participated in the vote on a motion to allocate $50,000 into the Community, Youth and Cultural Fund.
The vote took place on January 29th of this year.
The ruling indicates that is because he is Executive Director of the Boys and Girls Club of Thunder Bay which receives grants from that Fund.
The commissioner does say, however, that Councillor Aiello should not be removed from his office because in this case, it is not in the public interest since there is no evidence his actions were “other than well-intentioned.”
However, Aiello believes the conclusion by the commissioner is “far fetched” but accepts it for what is and will take the training which has been recommended.
