A City Councillor is very concerned about people hanging out in public areas such as the VictoriaVille Centre, despite calls to physical distance and stay home.
Aldo Ruberto claims many of them know what’s going on through social media, they do have a residence, but there are addiction issues.
“But I don’t know if they can control the fact that they are socializing, and having the potential to endanger not only themselves, but a lot of other people,” points out the At-Large Councillor.
After hearing concerns from a number of residents, he tells us he recently approached a group at Brodie and Victoria, warning them of what is going on in the world.
“It had absolutely no effect whatsoever. The same people I talked to just stared at me, looked at me like I was nuts or from Mars, didn’t give a toot about what I said or didn’t say. It was very sad,” recalls Ruberto.
The At-large Councillor adds everyone knows as news of the pandemic has been everywhere, but adds he figures some people are simply careless or don’t care about warnings of COVID-19.
“It’s not about you, it’s about society as a whole. I don’t think anything is off the books in terms of doing what we have to do. In some countries, if you’re out there socializing, the police will come, grab you, arrest you, take you off the streets, fine you,” noted the City Councillor.
Ruberto adds if the message doesn’t get through, he’s completely fine with martial law.
